That seems to be a question coming up pretty frequently lately. Are the disposable diaper companies worried? New designs, jeans, getting designers to actually design pretty prints above and beyond the typical Elmo or Pooh characters. So why? Is it because the increase in people going back to cloth diapers? The fact that cloth diaper patterns are adorable, and cutting back on a ton of money?
You would never know that the disposable diaper industry rakes in 7 billion dollars a year, heck I didn’t know till I watched a news cast the other night on ABC News :
One of the things I noticed in the news cast is the diaper company representative, I believe for Pampers blamed the Pampers Dry Max controversy on environmentalists as well as the cloth diaper industry. Granted, we used dry max and never had an issue, I am sure there are some who had the rash issue without having to point fingers at stay at home moms who sew cloth diapers in their living rooms and sell them on Etsy.
It seems as though with all these recent developments, disposable diaper companies are starting to get scared at the power of not only the “going green” factor that many families are taking into consideration when they decide their diapering path, but also the fashion statement that the cute cloth diaper covers are making today.
I know I certainly took the covers fashion into consideration when we decided to look into cloth diapers, and I couldn’t be happier with the cute colors we are getting from AppleCheeks. Especially their brown cover (I have a total thing for brown!)
But I think what is truly winning most over when it comes to the extreme diapering debates today, is the clear cut environmental factors. Disposable diapers are not good for our planet, and the more we learn about them, the more clear it is becoming. If you are a family like mine who is taking small step after small step to make your home more green friendly, cloth diapering is certainly one change that you may want to make.
Do I think disposable diaper companies should be worried? No, not at all because there are still going to be people that use them. They make not rake in multi billion dollar profits annually, but they certainly aren’t going to go broke.
They certainly seem far too concerns about a change that if it is going to happen, will happen no matter what new technology they come out with.
I think its so LAME that they just like formula companies strike while you’re in the hospital. Its really unfortunate that they are allowed to strike new mama. I didn’t even know about cloth diapering until after our son was born. I just wish they would tell you all the options. =/
WOW! That was riddled with grammatical errors and forgotten letters. Sorry.

Allie, it’s all good. The mommy brain does it. and I agree that they do attack you at the hospital with packs upon packs of disposable diapers. I really think hospitals should go back to cloth. The formula companies sposor free diaper bags that get sent home with you from the hospital, mine included formula coupons, disposable nursing pads, a baby bottle nipple, disposable diaper coupons, lanolin sample and a disposable diaper sample. Maybe a few green companies should get together and make a “green bag” for mom’s to take home from the hospital. I think that would be a brilliant idea!
I agree! Green Bags all around. =D Yea mine had the packets of Enfamil for traveling. Diapers and formula coupons. Its a shame. We don’t need to be solicited right after we have a little one. I wish hospitals had better morals. =/

We had rash issues with Pampers Dry Max (and I was a huge Pampers fan before that) so we switched to Seventh Generation and love them. Looking into taking it a step further to the cloth as we’re “going green” with as much as we can this year!
Dawn,I suggest if you switch to cloth yo try KaWaii Baby, they are the ones that I use. I have 2 girls in cloth and these were cheap and work wonderful. you can get them at theluvyourbaby.com and I got a 15 pack of print patterns for $104.50

absurd….. they are diapers, your kid uses them to go to the bathroom in… back in the day they had one kind, cloth flat folds, I bet those moms would have never even thought this could happen.
Honestly we use cloth and we are the rare cloth diaper folks that are from the school of, they pee and poop on them, they have to work but not be all cute.
I solely cloth diapered until I had to switch to formula (hmph) and then started using disposables. It makes me cry a little inside everytime I throw one away. I hate them. But Im expecting number 2 in 2 months and will get back on board with the cloth diapers. It isnt as difficult as it seems to CD and I think that is what scares the disposable companies. They know theyll never lose fully to CD but any chunk of profit missing will bother them. Im happy to help them lose money.

The hospital that I had my son at had cloth diapers or disposables available for us to use! AND we were able to take them home! I was completely amazed.
Buying a pack of Pampers at Target certainly never gave me the same satisfaction I get from carefully laundering, line-drying, stuffing and folding my son’s bright, fluffy basket full of diapers. It’s a little extra work in that respect, but I love it!
