Again, once again, and who knows what number time this is, but she has challenged another to a “Home Birth Debate” but here is the problem. What is there to debate? Home birth may be a choice for some women, and not for others, just like other birth choices like elective cesarean sections, epidurals, and hospital births. These women should be educating themselves on the birth they would like, not listening to what other people have to say blindly like so many women in our society do today.
Clearly Dr. Amy is not a “fan” or a supporter of home birth, just as though Marsden Wagner is not a “fan” of hospital births for healthy low risk women. When it all boils down to it in the end, anyone can twist anything to fit their own agenda. Whether it is the hospital or home birth debate. People can always find a study that will back up their cause or what they have to say.
What I have noticed though, is everytime Dr. Amy brings up home birth, she always brings up Lay midwives better known as CPM’s (Certified Practicing Midwives) or Direct Entry midwives. That fact is they are not the only midwives attending home births. There are many Certified Nurse Midwives that are attending home births across The United States.
In the end, what it all boils down to is personal choice, and how that should be protected by law. Women have choices regarding their reproductive care, and if they want to birth at home, that is their choice, and it is a safe choice for many that choose it. Same goes for hospital births.
Both have risks, both have benefits.
It all depends on the mother, her health, her pregnancy, and her choice.
No need for a debate.
