Baby Shower for #3?

The last girl in my family to be born was me… Yes… it was that long ago. 1985 to be exact. Since then my older siblings had four sons, and then of course I added to the bunch with two more boys. With a grand total of 6 grandson’s for my parents, ranging in age 14, to 21 months now. Needless to say, a girl never seemed in the cards again for my mother.  Heck, we weren’t planning anymore kids… in the next decade at least!

When we found out this baby was a girl, my mother was in disbelief, well… I think she still is and really won’t believe it until the baby is here, with a vagina, and real proof other than an ultrasound picture. My sister on the other hand has sworn since the beginning of my pregnancy that it was a little girl, Grandma’s lucky #7… and I guess she was right.

After the holidays were over, she started insisting I pick a date for a baby shower, and put together a list of my good friends. I was hesitant because of all those silly baby shower etiquette rules. But it seems like they have all gone out the window in the past decade. Nearly everyone I know gets a second shower, or heck, even a third… some with each child, which I could never imagine. I saved everything from my oldest so when our second son made his appearance, we only needed to stock up on season appropriate clothing.

Not anticipating anymore children, we gave away most of our baby things that could be used again. The swing we used for two children died when Ben was about 4 months old, so that went out with the garbage after DH tried to re-wire the motor with no success. The infant bouncer’s fabric ripped leaving it looking slightly unsafe, so that joined the swing.  Someone on freecycle was looking for a bumbo seat… that went. Our newborn carseat was different. We were going to hang on to it, but when we knew there would be no more children anytime soon, we knew by the time the car seat would be useful to us again, it would be expired. YES!  Car seats DO expire!

So one by one, we got rid of things, gave things away, donated them to local shelters, etc.  The only thing I hung on to was a mass amount of clothes from the boys. Which of course, I really cannot use.

Not expecting any kind of celebration, we started buying things early. Before we even knew we were expecting a girl, we had the bouncer, and swing purchased. I caught an awesome sale at Target and couldn’t resist, plus… there were OWLS on them!  Doesn’t get any better!   I bought a sling, and a couple little things here and there, but I continued once we knew we were having a girl.  Blankets, clothes, etc.

With about two weeks left till my baby shower, my sister is incredibly excited about everything down to picking out the flavors and details for the cake, while I find myself going through the motions. I certainly am excited for a small party focusing around our little girl, but we don’t need a ton of things like women would typically get for their “baby shower”   Maybe a pack of disposable diapers for the first few weeks till I can get into the swing of balancing the laundry of cloth while recovering from surgery… season appropriate clothes (which is mainly what we need) and the simple things like extra crib sheets, anything owl related (LOL), and some simple accessories… Bath towels, boppy covers, and of course the boppy newborn lounger I could not have lived without for my two oldest.

Mainly a ton of pink stuff, because I am going for the pepto bismol, a pink troll threw up everywhere look. I have been waiting to do over the top pink for a while… LOL

I have stopped shopping for the time being until after the shower, at the demand of everyone in our lives, but I just feel so awkward having another shower since I had one with Camden… I just have to keep telling myself, times change…

Steps Towards the Nursery

It seems like we have a bazillion and twelve things to do when it comes to getting ready for this baby, but my biggest project has been the nursery. I want everything to be perfect just like I have always done when it comes to the kids rooms. Camden’s nursery was the same way… it is just how I am.

So I started the process of picking out furniture, and paint. Something that is becoming a decorating battle with my husband. When it comes to the crib, and furniture, that is basically all of my department. But it seems like he is really starting to take interest in paint colors… do the point were he is 100% against any shade of pink.  His excuse?  “There will be too much pink”    Um… you are having a daughter… there will never be too much pink Daddy!  Get used to it!

He is rallying for a light pastel green. So now the paint colors are stuck between these two…

While both are nice, I still find myself drawn to the light pink, but I have a feeling that this is the first part in the nursery battle I am going to have to start waving my little white flag in order to get the ball rolling…
I can see his point though, with the wall art we are going to have, the green may be better suited.  (Wall art pictured below)

Although the pictured wall art is not exactly the same. I have been able to pick out my own colors for the leaves, owls, birds, etc. Cute huh?

Our crib also arrived this week. We got the Mercer model from Babyletto, who is participating in my Virtual Baby Shower. They are on the schedule for February. I love the crib style, and colors, and I think it is going to go perfectly along with everything else we have picked out thus far…

We obviously won’t be using the same bedding which is photographed with the crib though. LOL

One of the most difficult issues I have had is finding a dresser, and furniture accessories to go with the crib, and match nicely. I could have gone with the matching Babyletto pieces, but the spare bedroom we are going to be using for this project isn’t all that big, so to add the large bulky furniture, would have excluded room for my glider, and other accents I didn’t want to give up. Wow, I sound like some kind of decorating diva! No way!

Then I remembered… When all else fails… there is always Ikea. We have one local to us, so I can actually go into the store and look at the built size of the pieces, and know if they will fit or not. Which I am planning to do this weekend hopefully. But these are the two pieces I picked.

The dresser… I am not worried about a ton of storage space, because we already have a piece in white that will play nicely off of the above, it is almost like cubicles that I am going to put basket drawers into. I can use that to store our cloth diapers, my breast pump, blankets, and things of that nature… and leave the dresser for clothes.

The second piece is something I wanted to add not only because it is cute, and WILL go good, but because I totally think all little girls should have a window seat…  Because this bedroom doesn’t have one, and we don’t really have time, or resources to build one, especially since we won’t be here forever.

Told ya it was cute!  The best part is as she grows, it can double as a toy box, or storage for whatever kind of stuff accumulates over the next couple months. Lets be real here people… babies have a ton of stuff. I think my boys have more clothes, accessories, and crap than I do!  Guess it just goes with the territory.

I am also thinking about making some kind of bow holder, and headband holder. I was thinking about using the tutorial that Jill on BabyRabies made, but I am not sure if it will also accommodate the mass amount of headbands and hats I have already started to invest in.  If anyone has any hanging type ideas for that, please hook me up!

So overall, that is what we have thus far… but over the next couple weeks I will do little updates, with pictures to share with everyone and watch the progress. I want this to be finished ASAP because I am having major anxiety this pregnancy that we are not going to get everything I want finished before the baby actually gets here.

That, and the fact that we still haven’t decided on a name… I think that really has been getting to me.

Day two, already… Organizing blankets for our new baby girl we are expecting in May. I am truly obsessed with all the small details. The blankets, the patterns, curtain fabrics, and everything that goes along with decorating her bedroom. I need to get in touch with my interior decorating side I have been lacking…
It is also nice to be able to do a bedroom again without small children insisting they want everything themed around Disney’s Car’s movie.

The McSteamy Baby is Here!

And I bet you this is one cute little girl!!
Eric Dane & Rebecca Gayheart welcomed their first child on Wednesday, March 3rd in LA.
The baby girl’s name has not yet been released, but earlier in the year the couple had told the press that they wanted to “meet” their little girl before deciding on a final name.
Congrats guys!

Enjoy your babymoon!
